About The Honorees, Jonathan & Judith Stein 

Champions of Philadelphia Arts and Culture 


Jonathan Stein

Along with Jonathan’s 50 years as a legal aid lawyer with Community Legal Services, he has been active in the arts life of the area as a performer in many Leah Stein site specific works and with other choreographers such as Jerome Bel and Headlong Dance Theater. He is a founding writer/editor and Board chair of, and was a founding Board member of the Wilma Theater, Philadelphia Cultural Fund, PhillyCAM, ars nova workshop, and Philadelphia Dance Projects. He loves and recommends Leah’s vocal and movement improv workshops.


Judith Stein

Judith, an art historian, also has a 50 year career, in the visual arts in various roles including curator of contemporary art at the PA Academy of Fine Arts and as an independent curator; art writer for Art in America and other publications and biographer (“Eye of the Sixties”); consultant to the PA Convention Center and Morris Arboretum; and feminist art advocate. The 2019 Gala will take place outdoors at a scenic home in the West Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia. Please dress accordingly for walking on grass at a festive late spring garden party. RSVP below to receive the address. 


Inclement Weather Rain Location

In the event of inclement weather, Gala in the Garden will be held at Summit Presbyterian Church, 6757 Greene Street. You will be notified via email by 1:00 pm on June 2 in the case of rain.
